Jean Dubuffet

Jean Dubuffett (b.1901; d.1985) (freely adapted from the original text, see ref below) Having studied painting as a young man, and having had a successful life in wines (until 1942, and all of that Mishigaz), he again took up art in 1945. (Don't worry, there is apparently NO shortage of Mishgaz in the 21st century; sheesh :( He made a cult of [Art Brut] (raw art), the product of psychotics, or wholly un-trained peersons, and of graffiti -- preferring un-trained sopontenaity to professional skill. His own work is aggressively reminiscent of such 'popular' art, often featuring subjects drawn from the street life of Paris {Man with a Hod} Ref: [ Jean Dubuffet, "Man with a Hod", 1956, oil on canvas, hXw.
